Title: Quite a Noobly question I'm Sure.
Post by: M4ttlock on December 22, 2011, 08:53 pm
Hello everyone, it is an amazing day now that i have stumbled into the world of SR. I've been doing my homework and researching all aspects of the boards here. One thing i cannot seem to get a definite grasp on is, and i'm sure quite simple, about PGP Keys. I've downloaded and installed GPA created and encrypted some documents, but what i can't figure out is the keys. Do i need to send my Key along with my encrypted message? and obtaining someone else's key; will they send it to me with an encrypted message? or is  it posted on their listing? i'm sure i'm just over looking the obvious. Any help is much appreciated, i'm quite eager to make my first transaction  8)

While we're on the subject, which PGP clients work best with Mac? I've had trouble with damn near every one...

wait a minute.... i think i got it! i encrypt a message under the other persons key so they can read it? no need to give them my key. is this correct?

Bingo!

You've got it.

If you got to my profile page in my sig line, you can import my public key from there.

Write out your message, highlight it and encrypt it to my key, and only I can read the message.

They'll need you public key in order to encrypt a message for you to decrypt.

This is where I learned PGP. It was simple, if you follow the instructions. I think it helps to use ur SR name as ur name on their, so when others import it to their scrambler, it has ur name, but that's all user choice.
Peace

M4ttlock.......i'm sure it is fake or "secure," but you have a link to your IM (looks like AOL) address.  Not sure it is intended?

PGP or GPG? I all of a sudden feel all sorts of dyslexic.

I run a hackintosh and I use http://www.gpgtools.org/  it works wonders! :D

If you need any help setting it up, let me know.

I'll make it really simple for you.

If you have someone else's key, you can encrypt messages in their key. They will be the only ones who can decrypt it. You can also encrypt it in your key. If said person has your key they can decrypt. If not, only you can decrypt messages encrypted in your key. Same with other person.

I'm pretty stoned so I apologize if that makes no sense and is convoluted and confusing rather than helpful
